Our Impact

The Fund’s work results in new thinking, solutions and programs that fulfill its mission of creating an equitable and excellent education with positive outcomes for all Baltimore City school children, regardless of race and economic position.

Examples of the Fund’s impact include:

  • Supporting City Schools’ ambitious, multi-year Blueprint for Success plan to expand opportunity for students by securing $16 million in private and public funding for the Blueprint, and providing strategic counsel to City Schools staff as they explore options and identify solutions for student growth.
  • Convening students and parents to share their experiences, provide insight and offer suggestions for changes to educational policy and programs. In the past 5 years, more than 1,500 students and family members have shared their perspectives with the Fund, which guided the Fund’s systematic and programmatic recommendations.
  • Publishing reports that give voice to students and parents, outline critical needs, and offer practical recommendations to address systematic barriers to student success. Recent reports have focused on college readiness, school choice, and career and technical training.
  •  Creating programs and tools for students and families that help them navigate the steps and decisions required to pursue the opportunities and learning they desire. These include workshops on the school choice process, a website on the college application process, grade level reading resources and more.
  • Develop and manage initiatives that highlight and celebrate the excellent work done at schools and by school leaders. This includes the Heart of the School initiative, a year-round program in which the community honors Baltimore City Public School principals with annual awards and grants for school and student projects. The Heart of the School Fund has distributed more than $350,000 in grants to 89 principals.
