Achievement First is the Fund’s signature literacy reform model with a long track record of success in meeting the unique needs of Baltimore’s students, teachers and principals. Achievement First is a partnership between a school and the Fund to build the capacity of educators to improve student achievement and includes:
• In-school, job-embedded professional development up to four days per
week;
• Ongoing support for principals in instructional leadership;
• The Fund’s “scope and sequence” framework to support teaching and
learning; and
• Quarterly leadership meetings for all participating principals.
Achievement First is not a “canned” program.” It is designed to support partnering principals and their leadership teams to develop, implement, and assess on an ongoing basis the schools’ overall literacy goals, and targeted strategies for improving student achievement. We work closely with schools to support:
• Teachers in delivering engaging differentiated literacy instruction; and
• Principals in providing effective instructional leadership; thereby
• Creating a Professional Learning Community that embodies a culture of
collaboration and accountability to increase student performance.
